Ignorance of the Scripture is Ignorance of Christ"
This famous excerpt from Jerome's Commentary on Isaiah (Nn. 1.2: CCL 73, 1-3) is used in the Roman Office of Readings for the Feast (liturgical memorial) of St. Jerome on September 30. In it, St. Jerome firmly insists that ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ. A strong exhortation from a Father and Doctor of the Catholic Church to Christians urging all to recognize that serious Bible study is a necessity, not an optional luxury. The author, St. Jerome, was a monk and bible scholar of the 5th century, a contemporary of Saint Augustine. The Crossroads Initiative
Bible Study for Catholics
In the last MCGR meeting of CFC Southeast, held at the Holy Redeemer Church, all chapters were provided with The Great Adventure materials for the implementation of a Bible Study program by the Pastoral Formation Office.
We intend to implement the Great Adventure program as our official Teaching Night program for 2013. It will be 12 teaching night sessions, excluding the introduction session. The attendees will have to prepare for the teaching night by reading the prescribed scriptural readings, share their insights and watch a DVD program. This endeavor should help all of us in our quest to deepen our understanding and love for the scripture.
We urge everyone to attend the Introductory Teaching Night of the Great Adventure on January 26, 2013 at 7:00PM at St. Isaac Joques.
By way of preparation please watch this Great Adventure Introduction Video and then visit this What is the TGA
In the meantime, kindly ensure that you have a Catholic Bible and The Catechism of the Catholic Church for your use as these are essential reading materials for the Great Adventure program.
"to the greater glory of God"
